Maritime Training
  • Maritime Training

    Highly changeable wind and weather conditions, limited visibility, split second decisions, life-threatening situations – search and rescue missions at sea require helicopter pilots and rear crewmen to have the highest levels of training.

    Our qualified pilot, winch operator and winchmen instructors typically have over 5,000 flying hours’ experience, including 3,000 hours instructing and 600 hours on maritime Search and Rescue. Experience that militaries, coastguards and emergency service operators around the world can benefit from.

    Cobham Helicopter Academy's personnel have provided Air/Sea Rescue training techniques to the UK Ministry of Defence for over 20 years. In partnership with the UK military, our instructors have trained thousands of Search and Rescue crews.

    Over 16,000 flying hours of SAR instruction have been flown, with a wide range of military and commercial customers, including China Rescue and Salvage, the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy, the Albanian Air Force, the Algerian Navy, Bristow Helicopters and Vega Offshore.

    Recently, Cobham Helicopter Academy has been responsible for the establishment and provision of two independent Maritime Air/Sea Rescue operations in both the Dutch Caribbean and Trinidad and Tobago. Cobham is also responsible for Search and Rescue capability provision for the Royal Air Force and the Qatar Emiri Air Force.

    Cobham Helicopter Academy offers a full range of Air/Sea Rescue training for pilots, winch operators and winchmen, ranging from selection, aptitude assessment and initial training, to winching, search techniques and ship deck operations.
